Wild Nuts: an earthly autumn ritual

Sunday, October 14, 2:00 - 5:00 pm

One of our favorite rituals of the Autumn season is the gathering, storing, and processing of wild nuts. Much like squirrels, we squeal with delight and gather these nutrient dense and seasonally abundant foods, storing them for the months ahead. In this class we will discuss the many wild nuts that we can find in our area and how to identify, gather, and process them. We will look at hazelnuts, black walnuts, chestnuts, acorns, and more. The gathering and processing of Eastern white oak acorns into a nourishing flour will be covered in detail. Treats such as hickory nut milk, acorn flour cookies, and roasted chestnuts will be shared with the group. Handouts will be given.
