Native Pantry: indigenous teas, spices, & staple foods
Sunday, September 30, 2:00 - 5:00 pm
The landscapes of the Eastern temperate forest region are incredibly diverse, offering an abundance of plants that can be utilized in countless ways. Join us at Ardea as we look at native plants which can serve as staple foods, teas, and spices, bringing native foods to your pantry and spice rack. We will cover many plants and trees, such as common milkweed, sumac, persimmon, mulberry, oak, bee balm, new jersey tea, and more. There will also be a brief discussion on coppice management of some species, and the ecological importance of a bioregional diet. Tasting will be a part of this experience and handouts will be given.
