Sunday, May 19,  1:00 - 6:00 pm at Ardea Homestead Sanctuary
Instructor: Alexander Meander
Do you have an interest in gathering wild foods and want to build confidence? Are you a newcomer to foraging and want to make your efforts more rewarding? Foraging Fundamentals is compiled from over 15 years of foraging experience and will present select concepts, practices, and strategies considered fundamental to gathering wild plants for food.

Topics covered will include:

  •  common wild food plants and how to positively ID them
  • basic botany and using a field guide
  • general times to gather specific plant parts for food
  • life cycles of plants and what they tell us
  • the importance of the meristem in foraging
  • pattern recognition and whole plant perception
  • and more!

This class will be 5 hours in length. This includes a break to eat a light meal together composed mostly of wild foods gathered together during class! We will be on our feet for the majority of the time, moving through field and forest. In preparation, consider what you need to be comfortable outside.
